Getting started
How do I add a stream?
Tap the + button in the Library tab, then select Add Stream. Enter a name and the stream URL (must start with http:// or https://). You can also scan a QR code shared by another Wavr user.
What stream formats are supported?
Audio: MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG, OPUS, M4A, AIFF. Video: MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, FLV, WebM, TS. Streaming protocols: HLS (m3u8), RTSP, RTMP, DASH (mpd), HTTP/HTTPS.
Why won't my stream play?
Verify the URL is correct and accessible. Check your internet connection. Try switching the playback engine: go to Settings > Default Engine and select VLCKit for broader format support, or AVPlayer for native Apple playback. Some streams may require specific network conditions or may be geo-restricted.
Sharing
How do I share my streams with someone?
Individual stream: Long-press a stream in your library, then tap Share Stream or Show QR Code. Entire collection: Tap the share icon (arrow) in the toolbar when viewing All Streams, Favourites, or inside a folder.
Apple ecosystem
Does Wavr work with CarPlay?
Yes. Connect your iPhone to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle and Wavr will appear on your CarPlay screen. You can browse your library and control playback.
Does Wavr work on Apple Watch?
Yes. The Wavr Watch app syncs with your iPhone and lets you control playback and access your favourites from your wrist.
How do I use AirPlay?
While playing a stream with the AVPlayer engine, tap the AirPlay icon in the player controls to stream to an AirPlay-compatible device (Apple TV, HomePod, AirPlay speakers).
How do I use Picture-in-Picture?
Picture-in-Picture is available for video streams using the AVPlayer engine. When watching a video, swipe down or press the home button — the video will continue in a floating window.
Privacy & data
Where is my data stored?
All your streams, folders, favourites, and settings are stored locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Your data is included in your standard iCloud device backup.
Does Wavr collect any data?
No. Wavr does not collect, track, or transmit any personal data. See our Privacy Policy tab for full details.
Troubleshooting
App crashes on launch
Make sure you're running iOS 17.0 or later. Try force-quitting the app and reopening it. If the issue persists, try deleting and reinstalling the app.
Audio continues after closing a stream
Open the player and tap pause. You can also use the lock screen or Control Center controls to stop playback.
QR code scanner not working
Make sure you've granted camera permission (Settings > Wavr > Camera). Ensure adequate lighting and hold the QR code steady. The QR code must be a valid Wavr share code.
Sleep timer doesn't stop playback
Make sure you set the timer from the player view (clock icon). The timer only counts down while the app is active or playing in the background.
