Plately — Terms of Use
By installing or using Plately you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. The service
Plately helps you log meals, drinks, weight, and fasting sessions and view AI-generated nutrition estimates. AI estimates are approximate and informational only. They are NOT medical advice. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for nutrition, dietary, or medical decisions — especially if you have a medical condition such as diabetes, an eating disorder, are pregnant, or any other condition where precise nutrition matters.
2. In-app purchases
Every Plately purchase is a one-time Scan Pack that grants a fixed number of AI scan credits:
- Snack Pack — 50 scans for $2.99
- Meal Pack — 200 scans for $6.99
- Feast Pack — 1,000 scans for $19.99
- Mega Pack — 2,000 scans for $34.99
Packs never expire and there is no subscription. All purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's terms.
Each AI Weekly Insights report deducts 2 paid scan credits from your wallet. The first report each ISO week is free; additional reports in the same week cost 2 paid scans each. Free trial scans cannot pay for an insights report — only paid credits can.
Purchases are non-refundable except where required by law or by Apple's policies. Refunds are processed through Apple, not us. When Apple grants a refund, we receive a server-to-server notification and automatically adjust the affected credit balance.
3. Acceptable use of AI scans
Plately's AI scan feature is intended exclusively for photos of food, drinks, and nutrition labels.
Only food photos will be analyzed. When you snap a meal, the image is sent to our AI provider for nutrition analysis. If the AI determines the image is not food (a pet, a screenshot, a meme, a random object, etc.) it will return a "Not food" result. Non-food uploads still consume one (1) scan credit because the AI call has already been made and billed to us by the provider. You are shown a notice to this effect each time you capture a photo, before AI analysis begins. By tapping Analyze you confirm that the photo is of food and accept that a credit will be used regardless of the result.
Prohibited content. You agree not to upload images that contain sexual content, nudity, violence, gore, self-harm, hate symbols, child sexual abuse material, or anything else illegal in your jurisdiction. Uploaded images are pre-screened by an automated moderation system before AI analysis; flagged uploads are rejected and do not consume a scan credit. Repeated attempts to upload prohibited content may result in your access to the AI scan feature being suspended or terminated, with no obligation to refund unused credits.
You also agree not to: (a) scan content that you do not have the right to use; (b) attempt to tamper with, decompile, or reverse-engineer the app; (c) abuse the AI scanning system through automation, scripting, or any other means; (d) use Plately in any way that violates Apple's App Store guidelines or applicable law.
4. Notifications
With your explicit permission, the app schedules local notifications on your device: a daily meal reminder you configure in Profile, and a "1 hour to go" reminder one hour before a scheduled fasting session ends. All scheduling happens on your device using iOS's local notification system. We do not send remote push notifications unless you have opted in for low-balance alerts.
5. Trial scans
New users receive a small number of free trial scans on first launch so you can try the AI scan feature before deciding to buy a pack. Trial scans behave identically to paid scans for meal logging, but cannot be used to pay for AI Weekly Insights reports. Trial scans are not redeemable for cash, transferable to another device, or refundable.
6. Local data ownership
Meals, drinks, weight history, fasting sessions, your profile, and reminder settings all live on your device. You own that data. You can delete it at any time from Profile → Delete all data. See the Privacy Policy for the full list of what we send to our servers and how it is handled.
7. Health disclaimer
The app's calorie and macro estimates are derived from AI and public nutrition databases and may be inaccurate. Do not rely on them as the sole basis for medical or nutritional decisions. Plately is a logging and estimation tool, not a medical device or a replacement for professional advice.
8. Apple Standard EULA
Where these Terms are silent, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies. You can read it at apple.com/legal/.../stdeula.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the new Terms.
